Stating the number of animals
In Chinese language, we use measure words to describe the amount of
someone of something. For example, we use 个 to describe people, use
口 to describe the amount of the people within the family.
For animals, we use zhī只 for counting dogs, cats, birds or tortoise,
pǐ匹 for counting horses and tiáo条 for counting fish.
zhī gǒu
我 家 有 三 只 狗。
pǐ mǎ
他 家 有 两 匹 马。
tiáo jīn yú
她 家 有 五 条 金 鱼。
