1. Understand measure words: 个，口

2.Be able to ask how many people in your family:  

   你家有几口人？ 

3. Be able to answer how many people in the family: 

   我家有____人：__________________________。

measure words: 

In Chinese, normally we need a measure word for most of the things and there are no exceptions for addressing people. The common word used for describing people is gè 个. To say one person, say yí gè rén 一个人

（The same as in English, people also use measure words for certain things, like a piece of cake, a bottle of water）.

To ask How many people in your family? nǐ jiā yǒu jǐ gè rén? 

                                                                    你  家 有 几 个 人？ 

To answer this question, just simply replace jǐ 几 with the number of people.

You also will hear people use kǒu 口（mouth） as a measure word for describing how many people in the family. The reason behind this is the family members always eat together in the Chinese family and kǒu 口(mouth) indicates eating.
