Formative Feedback ‘Helper’ Checklist

 

Report Formatting

Criterion C is where the formatting, legibility, and organization of the written report is rewarded. In order to be placed in the 7-8 band, the student must have:

  • A report that is consistently clear, coherent and effectively (or creatively) follows the required structure.

 

This includes:

  • MLA Formatting (applied to the entire paper)

    • 12 point font

    • Arial

    • Double-spaced

    • 1-inch margins

    • No space between paragraphs

    • Black Ink only

 

Criterion C General Descriptors (Taking Action)

i.  create a product/outcome in response to the goal, global context, and criteria

ii.  demonstrate thinking skills

iii.  demonstrate communication and social skills

Section 3.1 Create a product/outcome in response to the goal, global context, and criteria

Writing Requirements

  • Typically multiple paragraphs

  • Most common

    • Chronologically/sequentially explaining how the product/outcome was created

  • Written in 1st/3rd person; 3rd person is preferred.

  • Strong, clear language and sentences

 

Task-Specific clarifications for the 7-8 band:

  • A high-quality product/ highly-successful outcome 

  • An analysis and evaluation of how the student achieved the project’s goal and connected it with a global context, creating a product/outcome that comprehensively meets the criteria for its success

 

Content Requirements

  • Address the creation of the product/outcome

    • Discuss the creation of the product/outcome

      • How was the action created and delivered?

      • How did the product/outcome respond/relate to the goal?

      • How did the product/outcome respond/relate to the global context?

      • How did the product/outcome respond/relate to the criteria? 

  • Be detailed and specific

  • Be clear and focused

  • Factual - no reflection on what was successful or not

Section 3.2 Thinking Skills

Writing Requirements

  • Typically two paragraphs

    • One paragraph for the critical thinking skill selected

    • One paragraph for the creative thinking skill selected

    • Must show the transfer of at least one of these skills

  • Written in 1st/3rd person; 3rd person is preferred

  • Formal academic language

  • Strong, clear language and sentences

 

Task-Specific clarifications for the 7-8 band:

  • Analysis and evaluation of: 

    • critical and creative thinking skills appropriate to the project 

    • transfer of learning from the research to generate new ideas or solve problems that help to achieve the project’s goal

 

Content Requirements

  • Address the following items in each paragraph:

    • Discuss the strand of the thinking skill selected

    • Demonstrate and justify your growth in the selected strand

    • Analyze and evaluate (to reach the 7-8):

      • How you used critical and creative thinking skills that were appropriate to the project.

      • How you demonstrated a transfer of learning from the research to generate new ideas or solve problems to help you achieve the project’s goal.

  • What should be discussed about each selected strand? Go in order.

    • What strand was selected

    • What level did you begin your Personal Project at?

    • What experience(s) allowed you to practice that strand?

    • Based on that experience(s) what level are you now working at?

    • What will this growth allow you to do now? How can you now apply this skill in school/life?

    • Make a connection to an IB Learner Profile. Because you grew in this thinking skill how has it made you grow in one of the IB Learner Profiles?

Section 3.3 Communication and Social Skills

Writing Requirements

  • Typically two paragraphs

    • One paragraph for the communication skill selected

    • One paragraph for the social skill selected

  • Written in 1st/3rd person; 3rd person is preferred

  • Formal academic language

  • Strong, clear language and sentences

 

Task-Specific clarifications for the 7-8 band:

  • Analysis and evaluation of: 

    • valuable ongoing essential interaction with those relevant to the project using a variety of appropriate modes of communication 

    • working effectively with others (if appropriate to the project) 

 

Content requirements

  • Address the following items in each paragraph:

    • Discuss the strands of communication and social skills selected

    • Demonstrate and justify your growth in the selected strand

    • Analyze and evaluate (to reach the 7-8):

      • How appropriate modes of communication were used for essential interaction with various people.

      • How you worked effectively with others.

  • What should be discussed about each selected strand?

    • What strand was selected

    • What level did you begin your Personal Project at?

    • What experience(s) allowed you to practice that strand?

    • Based on that experience(s) what level are you now working at?

    • What will this growth allow you to do now? How can you now apply this skill in school/life?

    • Make a connection to an IB Learner Profile. Because you grew in this thinking skill how has it made you grow in one of the IB Learner Profiles?
